The ''maybe'' successor of Mr. Lagerfeld.

Karl Lagerfeld

Hello fashion people,

Here are some news that we would like to share. You've all probably seen Karl Lagerfeld's wonderful designs? Well at first K. Lagerfeld wanted to be a cartoon artist, a portrait artist and an illustrator but fate chose another path for him as a fashion designer.
He's a man that goes with instinct. This icon recently bought his designs for the Macy's store.
Now as we all know he continued Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel's (known as Mademoiselle Coco Chanel) legacy by keeping up the work and respecting her style and structure for the clothes in the house of Chanel.

After the recent news spread on the Internet K.L is choosing a successor named : Haider Ackermann who is as well a fashion designer. Why? When? We don't know yet. Let's wait and see if the next leader of Chanel will be ready to handle the hard work and pressure...

Meanwhile enjoy your last hours of your Sunday!

The Ruby of Bank Street!

As you all know Berlin and I went to take a look at that famous store we were talking about previously. Remember the one with the funky looking mannequins? Well this is the store we are talking about! Ruby X, is located at 243 Bank Street Ottawa. It was kind of windy that day but it was totally worth it to have a look, and tell you Fashionistas what it is all about.

If you are interested in dresses and coats well this store is definitely for you, fashionable and unique in every way!

The ambiance of the store was very cozy, when we entered the store we were greeted with warm welcome from the lady at the register.

Speaking for the men section, there wasn’t really anything that caught my eye, but there was this stunning black bag on the shelf which was 59.99 $. It’s not too expensive and it was a pretty convenient bag, big, many pockets with a long and a small strap so that you can whether put it on your shoulder or just hold it in your hands. Apart from bag, there were some nice trendy shirts with original designs. Jeans were also available and the prices were quite affordable.

In the women section, there was certainly more variety of styles. Overall I was quite pleased with the wide selection of clothes for women. Starting from Shoes to dresses, shirts, pants, hand bags and more, there was something for any type of girl! Something that came up often when we looked was definitely the fur vests. These Japanese looking vests were just fabulous! I hope I’ll see some of these vests in the downtown core of Ottawa!

Have a great weekend Fashionistas!!!

Keeping your neck warm!

This past week I have been looking in many fashion magazines, from western fashion and Japanese fashion I found that scarves for this winter are very à la mode. The longer and bigger the scarf is the better it is, and honestly during cold winter days, who wouldn’t want to wear a huge wool scarf? Last Friday I went to Zara at the Rideau Centre and I actually found a really long grayish black and white scarf which was only 39 $. It might sound a little bit expensive for a scarf, but for keeping yourself warm during winter, isn’t it a price to pay?

Red as a Poppy !

Today was the Remembrance Day. For many of you, you recognize this day by the beautiful red flower called “Poppy” and also for the 1 min or silence.  In order to give respect to all the men and women who fought for us, I am writing this little article. It obviously took me more than a minute of silence to write this, but hopefully for you Fashionistas it will only take a silent minute of your time.

Poppies are only 25 cents, which is nothing compared to a coffee. The flower itself is very nice, so Ottawa Fashionistas I hope that today you manage to pay respect by wearing one on you.

Enjoy what’s left of today, and by the way, tomorrow Tania and I are going to that boutique I was previously talking about... the one with the funky looking mannequins. Hopefully it will be open.

Sweet dreams Fashionistas,

Grand opening of Fashionista Ottawa

Finally the big day has arrived! Fashionista Ottawa is my first Blog, and I hope it’s going to be successful. If not well I just want to enjoy sharing my passion for fashion with other bloggers. I never thought blogging would be so interesting, and addicting. Ever since Tania asked me to start a blog about fashion I just thought it would be a great opportunity to work as a team in a field we both love, which is Fashion "duh!". Of course Fashion is ephemeral, it’s always changing. It might seem hard to follow the new trends; therefore we’ll try our best to keep all of you Fashionistas updated on the latest trends in Ottawa. Ottawa might seem a little bit stiff when it comes to fashion, this is why we’ll try to make Ottawa a more Fashionable city. Ottawa already has its own Fashion Week, why not make bigger goals and aim for the stars, and eventually become a fashion Capital? Okay, I might be exaggerating a little bit, but honestly, dreaming is free right?

Enjoy,

- Berlin Laflèche :)

Why can’t weekends be longer?

Good evening Fashionistas!
Sunday evening already? Wow where did my weekend go? Today I was thinking about what we could add to our blog.  So I came up with this brilliant idea that I should go in stores and boutiques all around the downtown core of Ottawa. Since Tania and I are Tourism students, why not concentrate in touristic stores and boutiques from Ottawa? The fashion industry is really big; therefore there is something for absolutely everyone who is interested about fashion.
This week, I’m planning to go downtown in some stores/boutiques in the Byward Market. I will go try some new looks and then give an average price, I’ll try to go cheap because cheap prices are always good. That means you can buy more. Do you get my logic? It’s quite easy isn’t it? Buy more with less!  right!?
Last week end when I was in the market there was this store that struck my attention. It’s called Ça va de sois, does anyone know that boutique? It’s located on Sussex Drive, close to the embassy of the United-States. From the window the clothes seemed to be really nice and trendy, It’s definitely a must go for me this week.  Also, last Friday, around 9 pm I went out with some friends on Bank Street and there was this store with funky looking mannequin, I had seen it before but I never went inside. The clothes on the mannequin were just so nice that I just wanted to go inside and try everything (Okay, maybe not everything but you get what I mean right?) I’ll definitely go there this week and try some things out.  Maybe I’ll even buy something.
Bank Street with cute lighting

If anyone has recommendations on what stores they would like Tania and I to go to, please let us know, we are open to everything.  Write us an e-mail or just post something on the blog so people can have ideas too.
Ottawa Fashionistas, I hope you didn’t forget to change your clocks this morning, if you didn’t well it’s not too bad, at least you got and extra hour for your beauty rest! Enjoy what’s left of the weekend and we’ll keep you Guys and Galls updated.
Cheers,

Why attending a fashion show?

Have you ever questioned yourself why is it good attending a fashion show?
Well the answers are simple. When you attend these kind of events, you not only
meet a lot of people who makes you see the beauty of fashion, but also
you get the knowledge in it by learning who the designers are, what fabric they
like to use, how many outfits they use for a fashion show...
In brief you go there to learn, but in a fun way and especially getting ideas for the
next outfit you are going to wear!

Ottawa Fashion Week 2010

Hello Ottawa Fashionistas!

I think the blog should be ready soon! Tania and I just had our first meet-up about the blog yesterday (Friday,) and we put all of our ideas together, and it's looking pretty good. As you can see on the right of the page, there are some sections already available, but non of them has info in it, be patient they're coming.

Tania Managed to make an Interview with the famous designer Jessica Biffi, so the Interview should be soon available to all of the Fashionistas of Ottawa.

Anyhow, I found a Picture of Tania and I from the Ottawa Fashion Week. It's not the best picture ever because we were too excited to take picture of other people. We forgot to be a little selfish and take pictures of ourselves, we'll definitely know for the next time.

Have a nice weekend, and we'll keep you Guys and Galls updated :)

Ottawa Fashion Week 2010

The Ottawa Fashion Week held at the National Gallery of Canada was a huge success. 21 designers showed their collection throughout the weekend. Tania and I (Berlin) managed to make interviews with some designers, and also a model that was participating for the event. Designers such as Jessica Biffi, Adrian Wu, Rachel Sin and many more, expressed to the Ottawa Fashionistas their own new innovative styles for 2010. Get your hair done, dress up, and get your dress shoes polished, because the show has just begun.
